VFP members from Washington's capitol city celebrated the arrival of their charter with a pot-luck at the home of Laurel Vredenburg. Preliminary organizing followed, with the new chapter naming liaisons to Olympia F.O.R, the Rachel Corrie Foundation and our sister chapter in Seattle.
Olympia members will next explore non-traditional models for leading. One goal is consistent viability for Vets for Peace to replace the cyclical ups and downs based on US involvement in conflict. In other words, #109 is already preparing for Post Conflict America, a concept apparently MIA somewhere between the Pentagon and Iraq.
Unofficially, Olympia #109 will assume the link between VFP and Evergreen State's Peace and Justice program, the key sponsor for Rachel Corrie's galvanizing work in Rafah. This is a proud moment for members. Together, EP&J and Olympia Vets for Peace have brought Rachel Corrie home.
